I am reading Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. I am on page 164.

If I could take the place of anyone in this book, I would take the place of Cinna. Since he lives in the Capitol, he does not have to worry about all the bad things that could happen to him like the people living in the Districts, but he is not mean or shallow like the other Capitol people. Katniss is the main character, and as her stylist, he is good friends with her. He is a brilliant stylist, has a generally good life, and is a good person.

NHD has helped me grow as a student because it really showed me how you can start from scratch and still make a great project. I didn’t know anything about my topic before NHD and now I almost know too much (almost). This project also taught me the importance of listening and working well with your partner. I have a great NHD partner who contributes ample amounts of information and opinions to the project and our documentary wouldn’t be half as good without her. To future students the key to having a great project is to have a great topic. Don’t go with what’s easiest choice something that is unique or controversial. Your topic will help you stand out to the judges.

there arn't many people I would want to be in that story but i think Cinna is a good choice.

BFoster, I completely agree with you. It's amazing to see how far we've come with our topics when we didn't know anything about it when we started.

I am reading Saving Private Ryan by Max Allen Collins and i am on page 265.

If i could take the place of anyone in this book, I would take the place of Captain Miller. I would take the place of Captain Miller because i would like to be put in a leader position; also he is very good friends his squad. I also think it would be cool to have been an Army Ranger in World War II because i love learning about World War II and i think it would be a great experience to actually be in the war because i might be a Marine.

I agree with you all the way.

Blog #21 i am reading Crossed by Ally Condie, and im on page 168 and its the second book in the Matched series. I chose this book because like i said earlier it was the second book in the series and i wanted to read it because i thought the first one was good. So far its about this girl named Cassia and she lives in whats called "The Society" and they control every aspect of their lives, she gets sent off to this hard labor camp(you have to read the first book to know why) and she escapes and goes looking for this one boy that the society wont let her be with (by the way, the boy shes looking for, named ky, escapes too earlier in the book) and so far she just wandering the carving looking for him. I believe this book is "on-level" because i found it in the teen/young adult section of the book store also in the book they talk about topic that i believe would be inappropriate for younger children to read.

I am reading The Chronicles of Cherestomanci by Diana Wynne Jones and i am on page 117. I chose my book because it has a cool looking cover and my friend told me to read it(he tricked me). I thought it was about a battle between two kingdoms and it is but really the major thing is sadly a love story. Basically its where a solider falls in love with a slave so he betrays his kingdom and they run away to another kingdom called Cherestomanci. However soon the two kingdoms are at war and he is forced to decide if he is going to fight to be with his love or to save his family. It is above my reading level because parts are difficult to understand, there is a huge vocabulary and its about 600 pages long.

The Lucky One/Nicholas Sparks/pg 53
1.) I chose this book because a while ago a saw a preview for the movie and that it was a book by Nicholas Sparks. I love Nicholas Sparks and the movies based on his books are always amazing so I wanted to read this book before I saw the movie.

2.) In this book, a man named Logan Thibalt finds a picture of a girl while in Iraq. On the back it says "Keep Safe! -E" So Logan sets out on a mission to find E because ever since he's found this picture he's had a lot of luck. His friend tells him E is his lucky charm so Logan backpacks across the US after returning from Irag to find E.

3.) I think this book is right about at or a little about my reading level. In all of Sparks' books, he usually focuses a lot on romance, and a lot of teen books I read focus on romance as well. However, in The Lucky One, the romantic part of it is a little more for adults than the books I read. Some of the parts in the book get a little confusing because you can tell it's written more for adults, but I don't think it's too far above my reading level because a lot of things about his writing style is similar to most of my level reading books.

JKim6- I read that series a while ago, and I love Cinna! He's so sweet, unlike most of the Capitol people, and he doesn't think the Hunger Games are right. But, he also doesn't have to go through what it's like to possibly be in them. Really good points! You'll love the series, it's great.

The book I am currently reading is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling and I just finished it.

I chose Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets because I’m trying to finish the whole series in order. I love the Harry Potter movies and I have always wanted to read the books. It’s about Harry and how he goes to a school called Hogwarts and this year there have been numerous attacks on students they haven’t been killed but just petrified like you’re frozen in place and you’re sleeping. No one can figure out who is doing this to the students and Hogwarts might possibly close if these attacks don’t stop. This book is below my reading level but I only chose this book because I’m trying to read the whole Harry Potter series.

Bridget- Thank you so much! You definitely have done an outstanding job on the project. I'm so lucky to have you as my NHD partner. I do agree with you that the topic does need to be unique so it will stand out to the judges.

If you had to take the place of one character in your book, who would you take the place of? Explain why you would take that person's place.

I am reading the book A Clash of Kings by George R. R. Martin. I am on page 179.

If I could take the place of one character in my book it would be Rickon. He is a young boy of around 4 and a lord's son. His father was killed as a traitor, his brother has proclaimed himself King of the North and is at war, his sisters are in enemy territory, and his other brother was just recently paralyzed from the waste down. So he is not in the best of positions, but the other characters in the book, as can probably already be seen, are in even worse situations.

ASimmons5-
Whenever I watched that movie when I was younger it used to freak me out really badly. This was because I am slightly arachnophobic and the scenes with Hagrid's giant spiders extremely scared me.

The first blog i missed was blog 20. I think the NHD project helped me grow a lot. I learned how to make a website and conduct good research. Now when i write a essay they seem to be easier and I seem to write them two times faster. I also think twice before I procrastinate. For students coming in into reach next year, You can not procrastinate and you need to work your hardest.

The second blog i missed was blog number 18
The book i am reading is called The Ovechkin Project by Damien Cox and Gare Joyce. I am currently on page 77 of my book.If i had to take the place of someone in my book it would be Alex Ovechkin.
One of the reasons i would take Ovechkin's place is he is in the NHL. And i want to be in the NHL when i get older. Ovechkin also had a lot of very nice cars, Ovechkin has a very cool personality and he loves to score goals.

I'm currently reading Hana by Laurn Oliver and I'm on page 20.

If Hana, the main character, could go anywhere in the world she would go to China. Even though I'm not that far in the book, I have gotten to know her character because this is a side story to a trilogy. I know shes a very rebellious girl in a overprotective society. In this controlled and overprotective society, they don't know anything about the past world, no maps or history books, and no music, they only know what they are told. So in the first scene Hana and her best friend, Lena, are talking at the top of a snowy mountain while sledding Hana threw her hands up in the air and shouted "What about China?! Whats it like there Lena?" Then Lena went on to shush her. I think she would take any chance to travel anywhere, not just China, but I think she'd want to go there the most since it did stand out to her.

I just finished reading Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. If the main character, Katniss, could travel anywhere I think she would want come to America. I think that as Americans, we have so many freedoms and opportunities that we sometimes take for granted, but this would all be so new for Katniss. She is used to living in awful conditions, where people have barely any rights and half of them are poor and just barely scraping by. Also, they are ruled by an unrelenting Capitol who treats human beings like animals. America would be something completely new and I think if she had the chance, she could make a great life for herself.

Joy~
I agree with you on that character choice! He is one of my favorite people in the series because of how real he is compared to all of the other Capitol people.

The NHD project has taught me many lessons throughout the process of making it and it really did help me grow as a student. One of the main things was the ability to find the important major points of a paper of information and cutting out the minor points of the paper. At the beginning of my project, we made the essay of our research and I had about 14 pages of information. I had to cut down 8 pages by the time we had made the final draft of the script we derived from the original essay. I learned how to prioritize. There came a time when I just had to stop working on the recording, even though there were many flaws, due to time constrictions. I learned the ability to make my own point and focus in on an idea through my research instead of just doing generalized research.

I would really want to tell future NHD students is to never waste a second of your time because it is very limited.

My book is Band of Brothers by Stephen E. Ambrose and I am on page 33.
I chose this book because first of all I really enjoyed the television show version of it from BBC (even though I only watched a little bit of it). Also just the fact that is a war historical fiction makes it so much more interesting to me. My two favorite genres in the book universe are spy science fiction books and any historical fiction book that involves a specific historical war.
Band of Brothers is about a company of paratroopers from the USA army (specifically named the East Company from the 506th Regiment). It shows their involvement in D-Day and their capture of Hitler's Eagle Nest. Most importantly though, it pictures and captures the sacred connection between comrades in battle that is different from all other types of relationships and connections of the human race.
I feel like it is on my level especially with the variety of miliaty slang and language in the book. The plot is not too simple and the sentence structure is at my level too.

I would love to have that position of leadership especially in a military situation.

KHellkamp-

It is so ironic how the districts and the Capitol used to be America!

BLOG 16: In my book Imperfect Justice by Jeff Ashton I am on page 321. There is a twist every few pages, but the most surprising twist would be when the verdict for Casey Anthony came in. Jeff Ashton had been building up all this evidence and suddenly, the verdict came in and it was NOT GUILTY to all charges, except lying to police. This really is surprising because it was so obvious that she was guilty. I find this like the OJ Simpson trial all over again. This was really weird and unexpected because all the evidence was there and it was in plain sight that she was guilty, however the verdict found otherwise.

I am currently reading Watership Down by Richard Adams and I am on page 17.

If I could take the place of any character, I would want to be Fiver. Fiver is a rabbit just like almost all the other characters. My reasons for wanting to be Fiver are because hes a RABBIT, he is very small, and he gets lots of attention from others. He can be so dramatic at times, or as far as I have read. Who wouldn't want to be a bunny? Fiver also can sense danger around him for some reason. If I was like that lots of people could rely on me like him.

Joy,
I think that your totally obsessed with the series. And yeah, I agree with you for being Cinna.

Bridget,
I think we have all grown so much as students. And whod ought to thought tyhat jared and could do NHD?

Blog # 21- SPOILER ALERT
The book I am currently reading is the second book in The Hunger Games series called Catching Fire, by Suzanne Collins. I am also on page 37. The reason I chose this book was because once I started reading the first book in the series, it was kind of hard to quite reading them. This book is about how Peeta and Katiness had survived the terrible battle in the Hunger Games, and they both came out as victors for District 12. For both of them to survive the Hunger Games, and come out alive, they were going to eat poisonous berries in the first book. But, if they would have done that, there would not have been any victor for the Hunger Games. So, Peeta and Katiness both come out alive, and the entire time Katiness had faked being in love with Peeta just for the cameras during the games. Now, in the second book they both have to go to the Capital and prove that they are stile "madly in love" before uprisings occur throughout the country of Panem. This novel has relatively easy vocabulary, but I still think it is on my reading level because the content is made to be read by teenagers, such as myself.

Bridget- That is so true, I growed throughout the year as well. Also, when you gave future advice to students, I would say the same thing to them. The topic is the main key to acheiving a good grade in REACH, and to do good on your NHD project.
