Blog #25, Due: Friday, May 17th, 2013

Post the title and author of your novel.

Sometimes you come across sentences or paragraphs in books that make you stop and think.  Perhaps you really like the way the author says something, or the language of the book speaks to you for some reason, or it makes you think about something in your life, or it makes you think about what's going on in the world.

Post some sentences/a short paragraph from the novel that speak to you in some way for some reason.  Explain why those words intrigue you.

Blog #24, Due: May 3rd, 2013

Post the author and title of your novel.

Choose THREE characters from your book.  Tell which actors/actresses you think should play those three characters.  You can be creative with your answers and choose ANYONE as long as you explain.

Blog #23, Due: Friday, April 26th, 2013

Post your book title and author.

Briefly tell us about your main character.  Next, if your character were on a social media website such as Facebook, tell us 5 things your character might "like."  Remember: Likes can be interests, hobbies, organizations, movies, etc. etc. Briefly explain why your character would like each.

Blog #22, Due: Friday, April 12th, 2013

Post the title and author of the book you're reading.

Think of the reading you have done this week.  What would you say is "the most important word" based on what you read?  Write the sentence that the word appears in and explain why you chose that word.

Blog #21, DUE: Friday, April 5th, 2013

Post the title of the book you're reading and the author.

Blog #19, DUE: Friday, March 1st, 2013

Hi all, with NHD coming up, I decided to take a break from having you post about Independent Reading and to have you post about NHD instead.  Please answer the following and BE HONEST:

1. Specifically, what do you need to work on the most for your NHD project? (Feel free to list more than one thing.)

2. I assume that many of you will need to do some work at home for your NHD project, such as working on your annotated bibliography, finding and downloading music, downloading videos, process paper, etc.  Come up with a realistic plan that will work with your schedule for when and how long you can work at home on this.

3.  What questions do you have for me about NHD?  What do you want the most help with?  Please only write real, sincere questions you have.

Blog #18, DUE: Friday, February 15th, 2013

Post the title and author of your blog.

This week you wrote a prequel to the short story The Lottery.  Think about the novel that you're reading now.  If there were a prequel to your novel, what would it be about?  What kinds of plot lines do you think would be in the prequel?  Explain.

Blog #17, DUE: Friday, Feb. 8th, 2013

Post the title and author of your novel.

Find a poem (you might want to Google or search online) that you think fits your novel in some way -- I'm purposefully leaving this open to interpretation.

Post the poem (if it's extremely long, feel free to post just a portion of it), and explain why you chose it to match your novel.

Blog #16, DUE: Friday, Feb. 1st, 2013

Post the book you're reading and its author.

Almost all fiction authors have to do some kind of research before they write their novels.  For example, JK Rowling might have researched historical sites in London and different creatures from mythology.  Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games series, might have researched different types of weapons or survival skills.  The author of Twilight researched Native-American traditional stories.

Tell me something that you think your author researched before he or she wrote your novel.  Explain why you choose this (how it relates to your novel).

Blog #15, DUE: SATURDAY, January 26, 2012

(Sorry I posted this late - it's due Saturday instead of Friday!)

Post your book title and author.

We have been learning the persuasive technique of acknowledging the other side and then refuting it (counterargument).

Describe a situation in which one of your characters might want to persuade another character to do something or to believe something.  After describing the situation, pretend you are the character and write a counterargument.

I will post an example.

Blog #14, DUE: January 11th, 2012

Post the author and title of your novel.

Vocabulary:  Find four words in your novel that you do not know well.  List those four words.
Next, choose one of those four words, write the sentence that contains that word from your novel, and then look the word up.  Write the definition of this word.
