Blog #19, DUE: Friday, March 1st, 2013

Hi all, with NHD coming up, I decided to take a break from having you post about Independent Reading and to have you post about NHD instead.  Please answer the following and BE HONEST:

1. Specifically, what do you need to work on the most for your NHD project? (Feel free to list more than one thing.)

2. I assume that many of you will need to do some work at home for your NHD project, such as working on your annotated bibliography, finding and downloading music, downloading videos, process paper, etc.  Come up with a realistic plan that will work with your schedule for when and how long you can work at home on this.

3.  What questions do you have for me about NHD?  What do you want the most help with?  Please only write real, sincere questions you have.

My topic is the attack on Pearl Harbor and my partner is Kaitlin Phillips. For our NHD project I need to work on getting more pictures put into our movie each day, and increase the number that we usually put in. My partner and I aren't behind, but since we're both in band, and there is an upcoming trip, we need to get more accomplished. Also, I need to finish the process paper, fix the corrections on our annotated bibliography, and download our music called Sound of An Angel. A realisitc plan I could fit into my schedule is starting Monday, do one paragraph on the process paper, and edit it with my partner on Thursday, which would take me about an hour. Then during class I could find the pictures, and perhaps email them to my partner, while she inserts them in. The only really question I have about NHD is: How can you make music repeat again? Our documentary music is eight minutes long while our documentary is eleven minutes. I think I have an idea, but I'll talk to my partner too. Other than that, this is what I need to do for NHD.

The topic my partner Faith and I are doing is Abraham Lincoln's effect on slavery: The Emancipation Proclamation. The thing we need to work on most is making a time line and uploading different multimedia such as music. We also need to finish correcting our annotated bibliography, touch-up our process paper, and cut down the amount of words we have. A realistic plan would be working 15-20 minutes on the website each day of the week because I'm busy with swimming until seven thirty and then I have other homework. Plus, on Saturday we could come in for the full time provided and work at school and finish anything else on Sunday. I can't currently think of any questions I'd like to ask.

ABerryman5: We seem to have similar things accomplished and things to work on!

ABerryman5 said...

KAslanidi: It seems that we both need to do our best to accomplish our similar goals! If we work hard we can definitely correct our annotated bibliography and process paper.

My topic is The U.S./U.S.S.R. Space Race: Sputnik. For my project, I need to have Ms. Haro or Ms. J. Thomas watch my iMovie and see if anything needs to be fixed, since I've finished making it. I also need to finish up my bibliography, and have that looked over. A realistic plan that I have is to just do as much as I can each day, since I don't have anything planned for the rest of this week, or the next. The only question I have is: Can you and Ms. Haro edit ALL of my NHD stuff (process paper, bibliography, and project) so that it's perfect?

J DeVoe6 said...

A Berryman5:
Band sounds like a real hassle. Can't you work on your process paper or something on the trip? Or is that pretty much impossible?

My topic is the Gutenberg Printing Press: A turning point for Literacy.

1. I need to work on editing my process paper and work on finding a timeline to put on my website either on the increase of books or the change in literacy.

2. A realistic plan would be for me to find a timelime and add it onto my website all in one period of time, whenever i have the time. Also i could check and do minor edits to my website for about 15-30minutes everyday.

3. What questions do you have for me about NHD? What do you want the most help with? Please only write real, sincere questions you have.
One question that i have is that will you be able to check over my website before the weekend?
Also, do we have to have all the items on the check list that we were give, like an audio file or music because i think it would be very awkward and challenging to include some of those things into my website?

My topic is the Inchon Invasion and my partner is Brittany Young. What I need to work on most is finding the right video to put into the iMovie. For fixing the annotated bibliography, finding and downloading music, downloading videos, and process paper, realistically, I will have to work for about an hour everyday which is possible. Every day I'll do a little bit of each thing and then if worst comes to worst, I'll split the work with Brittany at the last minute. The question I have is: is there a minimum time limit for the iMovie?

ABerryman5: I was going to ask how we make the music repeat again also.

My topic is the Fall of the Berlin wall. For my NHD project I need to put more minutes into my final project. I also need to finish up putting in the pictures for my iMovie and i have 5-6 minutes left to do. Also i have to get my videos and interviews before i integrate my music. How do u put a new recording in with the old one?

ABerryman5: thats an awesome process

My NHD project is on the bombing of Pearl Harbor and my partner is Amanda Berryman. One of the most important things we need to do at this point is find the rest of our pictures and actually put them into the documentary. Next we need to of course download the music that my partner found and put it into our project as well as do our end credits. Then there are the corrections on our annotated bibliography and finishing our process paper. My plan for this week is to in class finish putting our pictures into iMovie through blocking and then at home while still doing other homework I will work on downloading our music and editing our annotated bibliography. Also sometime this week my partner and I will most likely meet at my house in order to look over and edit our process paper. I don’t really have any questions at the moment besides what my partner already asked.

KPhillips5 said...

J DeVoe6: You’re so lucky that you finished putting together your documentary. Also, I hope you can get Ms. Haro or Ms. J. Thomas to look over everything. I hope they can do the same thing for us too.

My NHD topic is the 1960 televised debate and my partner is Sajani Thomas. The aspects of our website that I need to work on the most in order to finish it would probably the process paper, adding in more media and interactive features, and cutting words. I plan on working on the aesthetics of the website, as well as the process paper, with Sajani tomorrow after school, where we can hopefully finish our project. Cutting unnecessary words is something I feel like I can accomplish during school, so I probably will not work on that too much at home. As far as questions are concerned, I was wondering if someone could look over our website since we haven't been able to get a second opinion on it yet. Also, is there a specific date when we are supposed to publish the website?

Ocallen6 said...

KHouse5,
I was also wondering if we had to
have every single thing on the checklist. It seems like you're really well prepared for NHD :)

My topic is the on the creation of the CIA. The thing I need to most work on is my annotated bibliography. My annotations weren't as strong as they should be to do well in judging. I also need to finish my process paper. I will need to work on my process paper about an hour everyday, same with my annotated bibliography. I will insert videos and music on Friday. One question I have is how to make my annotations better because I couldn't really get them right.

OCallen6: It seems like we need to do and finish some of the smae things. I also liked your question.

My topic is The National Security Crisis: The Establishment of the CIA.
1. I need to work on my word count on my Cuban Missile Crisis section and finish my 9/11 section.
2.I am going to work on my process paper and finishing what i have listed before during our time blocking, at school on Saturday, and tonight.
3. Do we need music because none can really fit my topic?

ENunn5 said...

OCallen6: Great question.

Me and my partner need to work mostly on finishing on putting our pictures into our imovie. Me and my partner are going to work on our process paper and our annotated bibliography for at least an hour everyday after-school. I really don't have any questions because the work is pretty straight-forward.

JChoi6: That sounds like a good plan.

MLangston5 said...

My topic is the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand: the Spark of WW1 and its effect on Germany.
1. I need to work on putting pictures into my iMovie.
2. I need to work on Annotated Bibliography when i get home from school.
3. How should I choose music?

ENunn5: Same here with the music!

My topic is The Attack on Pearl Harbor: Aftermath of the Attack.

1)I need to finish my finish my process paper as well as adding my video to the website.

2) At home, I need to work on my process paper for at least another 45 minutes and download my music onto the website.

3) The only question I have is how do I get my video onto the website? I'm seeming to have trouble with this and get it to work.

EmmaN5: Your question makes sense. You could also find a recording of someone or a speech important to your topic and use that if you really want to use sound.

Kbelvin5 said...

1 We need the videos on our website, and also possibly need music.
2 Working on subtracting the word count for maybe 10 minutes a day, along with another 10 more minutes for subtracting and adding videos.
3 HOW DO YOU EDIT AND ADD VIDEOS!?!?!?!
Enunn5: you should put in patriotic music ex: pledge of allegiance, star spangled banner, etc.

My topic is The Reykjavik Summit, and my partner is Ben Harbaugh. 1. Because we’re done, I’m going to say what the hardest part of the project was the Annotated Bibliography. 2. We’re done, so I don’t need to work on this at home. 3. What was the point of NHD? What do you like about NHD? What don’t you like about NHD?

J DeVoe6~~ Sound like NHD was easy for you.

Ryan and I based our Documentary on Henry Ford and his innovation of the assembly line. The part of our project we are having the most trouble with is we need to finish our pictures, we only have 5 minutes and 45 seconds done. A work schedule for me and Ryan- like are agenda for this and next week is: thursday Ryan stays after school, then friday we'll both come if we can after school, then again on Saturday. Only question I have is about whether we are turning in our annotated bibliography with or NHD project, i think we are but not sure.

BHarbaugh said...

My project is The Reykjavik Summit and my partner is Aaron Meling. For the first question, we need to edit our annotated bib a little more, but other than that we are finished. We’re done so we really don’t need to work at home. Do you like NHD?

KPhillips5, It kind of sounds like you guys have a lot of work ahead, but either way I like your topic.

AMeling5, nice topic

1.) Macey and I have to work on finishing writing the process paper. We also need to work on finding a graph/timeline.
2.) I figured that I will work at home every day for at least 20 mins to get our website where I want it to be.
3.) I would kindo like to have our process paper to be edited by you (Ms. Thomas). One question I have is that, what kind of questions will he judges be asking us, and how to respond to them.

CMcFetridge6 said...

ABerryman5: Dang, you're doing really well i guess, since your working on music as well as pictures.

KAslanidi5: You website peeps are lucky! Sucks for us cause we have to be at school when we want to work on documentary.

I am working solo on my project. My topic is "How Fast Food has been a turning point in Childhood Obesity." What I have left to do is finish my process paper and my annotated annotation. I plan to work 4 hours a night total, 2 hours on the process paper and 2 hours on the annotated bib. This will have me completely finished by Saturday. One question I would like to ask is if it is possible to cut 1 minute in two days?

I need to work on matching the pictures up with what me and Kam'rn are saying mostly. But I also need to work on finding someone who will answer me and Kam'rn's interview questions.
At home I need to find and download music for our Imovie and also download the videos that we previously found so we can put them in our imovie.
A question I have is how often should the kenburn effect be used? I remember last year Mrs. Cheshire told us not to use it on every single picture, but is that still the case this year?

ABerryman: That is a good question! I remember running into that problem last year but I don't quite remember how I solved it.

1.Our topic is D-Day and what we believe we need to work most on is finishing putting pictures into our iMovie. We only have 1 minute left to finish. We also have to download our videos/interviews and pick which parts of them we want for iMovie.

2.What we plan to do this weekend and next week is go to the Saturday workday to hopefully put our videos and music into the iMovie. Than next week Dominique hopes to add sources and pictures to our bibliography and edit our process paper.

3. What do the judges base their judging on?

ABerryman5: We have similar plans.

My topic that I am working on is about the Monroe Doctrine and the Latin America. I have busy schedule everyday thus I need to finish website when I have time. For our project, I need to upload pictures in every pages and videos. Also, I need to fix annotations. A realistic plan would be working more than an hour everyday to edit words and organizing the website. the one question that I am have about NHD is: How many people usually go to the state competition?

ENunn5: I am having a same situation right now. I wish I have a music to fit into my topic

My topic is February 14, 1928: The First AIMS/FIMS Congress. My partner is Haley. At this point, we need to work most on cutting our script down to 11 minutes because we currently are at 12 minutes. My plan is to finish fixing my half of the annoted bibliography over the weekend. I already finished the proccess paper and edited that. As far as cutting down, I will be in tomorrow for 3 hours to work on that. Luckily, Ms.Thomas has watched our movie and we know what to cut out. Also, I have to find music from the flashdrive and add that in tomorrow. I currently have no questions regarding the Imovie.

LScammacca6 said...

@MollyLangston5- Same here except we have to cut instead of add pictures. We have to find music hopefully tomorrow. Oh I like your topic- its cool!!

LVargas6 said...

My topic is the Gutenberg Printing Printing press. Although I have finished my iMovie, I still need to cut about 50 seconds. I need to change a section of my music and finish editing my annotated bib and process paper. My plan is to complete all the corrections on my iMovie on Saturday. At home I will complete the annotated bib and the process paper. One question I have is, is there a way to prepare for judging? If there is how?

I can't think of any questions that I have for NHD.

My NHD Website Topic is Abraham Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation. I have finished most of my website, but I will also be attending the Saturday Help Day from 9am-1pm. I need to mostly work on my annotated bibliography and edits that Mr. Noles have given me. I usually work an hour a day at home, sometimes less; and sometimes more. I mostly need help with my videos and dowloading files onto my website because Of errors along with Weebly. Also, is there a way to "study" for judging; if so how?

CNorton5 said...

REmmons: Putting pictures into an IMOVIE is tough, becuase they can get mixed up, lost, etc. Have fun! lol

MaceyD6 said...

My topic is The Women's Rights Movement: Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton's impact, and my partner is Mallory.

1.) What we needed to work on the most was getting our word count down. Originally, we were about 100-150 words over, but now we have it under the limit.:) Another thing we needed to work on was our process paper. We pretty much put it on the back burner, as it wasn't our number one priority. Thankfully, we have it done now, though.
2.) A realistic plan would probably be to work on the finishing touches of our process paper for the few remaining hours we have till it's due. Also, we could go over our whole website and check for cosmetic errors.
3.) A question I have is still what we are allowed to wear for the Judging? Do we get to be out of dress code for the whole day?

MaceyD6 said...

SHutto: I am really excited to watch your iMovie! It seems really interesting, and yeah, I think everyone basically has to finish their process paper.

KatyP6 said...

The topic Taylor and I are doing is: Rachel Carson's Silent Spring and the Growth of the Environmental Movement.

1) We need to watch our documentary a couple more times to make sure the music doesn't take over our voices as we speak. We also need to work on fixing our annotated bibliography.

2) We are going to split the annotated bibliography so we each are able to fix it. I will probably do most of my part of the annotated bibliography in class and over the weekend. Taylor will probably do the same on her part.

3) The question I have is: Is there a limit to how many sources we have to put into our credits?

KatyP6 said...

MLangston5: Taylor and I need to work on our annotated bibliography too.

TCummings6 said...

My Topic is Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring" and the growth of the environmental movement and my partner is Katy Prindle. The things we need to work on most is to complete revising our annotated bibliography and watch our full documentary to make sure everything fits correctly and is timed perfectly. Our plan is to split the annotated bibliography so we each do the same amount of work over the weekend and a few days next week. Also to come in on Saturday and make last minute changes to our documentary before turning it into Ms. Haro and Ms. J Thomas. A question that I have is: Should we include an interview in our iMovie? Does that impress the judges more?

KatyP6- That is a great question. I was wondering the exact same thing, I'm glad you asked!

BNguyen5 said...

My topic is the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand: The Spark to WWI and its Effects on Germany and my partner is Molly.

1-The thing that I think that needs most work on is our annotated bibliography as well as incorporating our interview that we just acquired into our iMovie.

2-I plan to look for and download music at home and I predict that it would talk about half an hour to an hour for me to find music for all of the sections of our iMovie and to download them all. Since we won't be able to work on our iMovie at home I plan to work on it mostly this Saturday and in class. I also don't have Microsoft Word and switching our annotated bibliography to Google Docx would mess up the format of the indentions so I plan to work on it during class and on this Saturday as well.

3-One question I have is: How do we choose which question that we asked the person we interview to include in our iMovie?

SThomas6 said...

Olivia and I have completed our website in its entirety in today's class. The only thing we have to do is add the citation for our audio tapes. I will complete this over the weekend.

SThomas6 said...

BNguyen: We chose the portions of the interview we thought most useful. I hope that is okay.:)

My topic is the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. To finish my project I need to put in the rest of my music, credits, finish my bibliography updates. I have not managed to fall behind due to my ealry mornings working and the saterday that I attended. I have also satyed after school. My plan is to finish the music in my documentary and update my bibliography. I think that I can get these things done in a fairly short amount of time. My question is what do I needto have in my cerdits at the end on my documentary?

KAslanidi5: Your doing a website, right? Do you need music for that? Plus I think your topic is really interestingto learn about. That was my second choice.

BNguyen5 said...

LVargas6: Great Question! I was wondering the same thing!

LWoodward5 said...

Katherine and I finished our website today. The only things we still need to add are the process paper and annotated bibliography, which we will complete this weekend. We also want to ensure that everything on our website looks neat and organized and makes sense. We will upload the documents of our bibliography and process paper this weekend, which will then complete our project. The only thing I want to ask is how do we edit videos? We already have one short video, but we would like to add more if we have time to. I know we have to use iMovie, so do you think we would have time to complete this before everything is due?

MaceyD6: That's a great question. I was wandering the same thing.

HFern6 said...

Me and Lexi still have to cut forty-five seconds off of our Imovie, find better primary pictures, and fix our annotated bibliography. This weekend Lexi and I are splitting up the bibliography so that we can fix all of our problems. Both of us plan on coming in on Saturday to work for a few hours cutting the rest of our Imovie down. After we have fixed everything we will need Ms. Haro or Ms. Thomas to view our project for any further corrections. I would also like to fix our Bibliography this weekend so that on Monday Ms.Thomas can make sure everything is in the right format. I am feeling confident about our project, but m worried that we don’t have another minute we can cut off.

Our project is the Inchon Invasion and my partner is Jasun Choi. The thing we need to work on most of all is the annotated bibliography we about done with everything else besides inserting a video and music. Also we need for either Ms. Haro or Ms. J Thomas to look over the imovie to get feedback. I can finish a lot of work afterschool at home like a couple hours after sports. Things we need most help with is downloading a video for the end of our video. How do you download a video from a website other than YouTube or Discovery Education? And what else should we add to make the iMovie better?

@LWoodward5: you guys seem to have similarities in what you need to finish and review your project. Good luck!!

Our topic is The Montgomery Bus Boycott. My partner is Vanessa Gomez. We need to work on cutting out time from our iMovie. We also need to work on cutting out some blank spaces that have no recording. We still need to add credits at the end of our documentary. We also need to work on our annotations and fix Ms. Haro's edits that she made. We both are going to split the work by one night Kayla is going to work on a page of annotations then the next night Vanessa is going to work on a page of the annotations. Then we will continue the pattern.

Would you mind taking a look at our iMovie music and see if it is appropriate for our topic?
We have some natural blurry pictures that are really important. Should we take them out and find other ones or what should we do?

For my NHD project i am working with Katya Aslanidi and we are doing Abraham Lincoln's effect on slavery:The Emancipation Proclamation. We mainly have it work on getting the timeline and other files to work. Plus we have to fix any grammatical errors in our website. When I'm home, katya and I will go over the edits and fix the problems that need to be fixed, and try to find music and videos.

Would you be able to help us put in our timeline correctly? It's still somewhat blurry and we need it to be bigger.

HFern6: I wish you and Lexi the best of luck with finishing your IMovie! I bet it will be great!

3. How many students on average go to state?
