I am currently reading Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell. In this classic novel, Karana, a young tribe girl and her brother, Ramo live on a desert island. One day Captain Orlov, a ship captain; invaded their island and planned to take over. Karana is also known as the girl with long black hair, and she is very curious and independent when it comes to being on the island.
If Karana had a facebook page, I think she would like many things. For example:

1. Hunger Games because Karana knows how to survive on her own, but also does not think just about herself as Katniss does.

2. The beach, because she practically lives on one, (an island) and loves the water.

3. Dolphins because those are her favorite animals.

4. Science or plants, because she loves to gather them.

And lastly 5. Family because she loves her family and would do anything for them.

I am currently reading The Beggar King and the Secret of Happiness by Joel Ben Izzy.
The three characters that I am choosing are King Solomon, Joel, and Demon King Ashmodai. For King Solomon, I think Richard Chamberlain should play him because he had taken a movie called, "King Solomon's Case" and I thought he had about the same age as the King Solomon aged during his ruling at the Jerusalem. Joel is a storyteller in the story. For Joel, I think Mads Mikkelsen, who played Casino Royale, should play him because he looks like he has a lot of stories to tell. Demon King Ashmodai is currently captured by King Solomon and he gets released in the story. For Demon King Ashmodai, I think Christopher Lee should play Demon King Ashmodai because he has a lot of experiences with evil roles. His famous evil roles were: Count Dracula (Horror of Dracula), Saruman (The Lord of the Rings), Francisco Scaramanga (The Man with the Golden Gun), Count Dooku (Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones), Lord Summerisle (The Wicker Man), and King Haggard (The Last Unicorn).

I am reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. This is a classic novel, and one of the main characters is peter. Peter is a tall fellow with blond hair and is very brave.

1) Family because peter is the dad basically after his dad died. He watches over his family.

2) Blacksmith because every knight/sword needs a weapon.

3) Veterans memorial because his dad served in WW2 and died.

4) Hunger games because he knows how to survive and live when he has so little.

5) National park because of how similar it was to the land/area peter spent his time in Narnia.

I am currently reading The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. One quote that I like is “I told Tantalus to go chase a doughnut. ” I like it because its really funny because Tantalus can't eat or drink anything. Another quote is “I couldn't believe I'd come this far, lost Tyson, suffered through so much, only to fail - stopped by a big stupid monster in a baby-blue tuxedo kilt. Nobody was going to swat down my friends like that! I mean...nobody, not Nobody. Ah, you know what I mean.” This stands out to me because it shows how much Percy cares for his friends.

MLangston5: Very good quotes and reasons.

I read the Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. One quote I found interesting is "Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes." This is said my Edmond Dantes. I found it inspiring because it is true. Life is like a storm, there are ups and there are downs and there is nothing you can do about it. All you have left to do is deal with the situation and not let it drag you down.

HLee6: Interesting choice of actors. I agree with you on Richard Chamberlain.

I am currently reading The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Bilbo Baggins: I believe Simon Pegg would be the best actor because although he doesn't look exactly like Biblo, his acting skills and personality would allow him to be light hearted and silly.

Gandalf: I think Sean Connery would be another good actor for Gandalf because in his other movies, he's often seen as a mysterious, yet sarcastic man, very similar to Gandalf.

Thorin: Richard Armitage would be the best actor, not only because he actually played him in the movie, but his rugged style and description are very similar to Thorin.

CNorton5: Not only was the a good book, but all of those relate very closely to Karana.

Book: Wuthering Heights

Author: Emily Bronte

So in the beginning of the book when Mr. Lockwood comes over to Mr. Heathcliff’s house; he’s not home so he decides to wait for him. When he walks into the sitting room he finds a beautiful girl there, whom he assumes is Mr. Heathcliff’s wife. Trying to make conversation with the girl, calling her Mrs. Heathcliff, she responds rudely. Later when Mr.Heathcliff returns he corrects Mr. Lockwood that she isn’t his wife but his daughter in-law and leaving a very awkward moment for Mr. Lockwood.

How I would have handled this situation if I were Mr. Lockwood; when I first meet the girl, I wouldn’t directly infer she’s Mr. Heathcliff’s wife. She could have been a servant for example. If I were to try to strike a conversation I would have introduced myself first hoping she would respond and introduce herself. If she didn’t than I would have waited till Mr. Heathcliff came back and hope he would introduce her as his wife or as his servant/daughter in-law.

KaylaN5: Did you see The Hobbit movie version? Would you have preferred the actors you chose over the original actors?

I am reading Lawn Boy Returns by Gary Paulsen and the main character actually has NO name but i can say he is a very intelligent young man that has made a living from mowing lawns. I think that if he was on a Social Media Website such as Facebook, I think he would like:

1. The Wall Street Journal because he likes Business and economical related things

2. Home Depot so he could get coupons and information on Lawn Mowers

3. Boxing because he loves to watch Boxing in his free time

4. Okley because in the book it always talks about how he loves his glasses and that they are Okleys

5. Gary Paulsen because, well its his author. Without him, he would not have been alive. . . I guess

CNorton5: Island of the Blue Dolphins sounds interesting and cool according to her "likes"

The book is Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis. An excerpt in the book that spoke to me is a part when the main character Bud meets his dad for the first time he feels like he finally has a part that hes been missing for so long. "Then Herman E. Calloway said the words that let me know I was right, I felt like someone had cut a light on inside me. I knew it'd been right for me to come all the way from Flint to Grand Rapids to find my dad,"(Curtis 145). He also mentions the great distance he traveled to meet him. I think everyone can relate to going to great lengths to accomplish a goal that may have big rewards in the end.
@AMowry: I love that book so much and that is by far one of my favorite quotes.

I missed blog 23

I am reading the secret garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The following are five things that the main character, Mary Lennox, would 'like':

1) Mary would like the place, India. This is because this is where she was borned and raised as a young child, and she has many memories here, although she is not very fond of most of them.
2) She would like "boredom" because although her ayah was almost always by her side, she always had to find something to do. This is because neihter of her parents payed her any attention. She mentions that she doesn't even miss her mom after she dies because of the fact that she didn't even know her very well at all.
3) Mary would like "loneliness". This is because on top of losing her mom, dad, and ayah, she can't seem to make any friends at the first place she stays. Many of the boys and girls her age called her "mistress Mary quite contrary". They all also refused to play with her.
4) She would like "Gardens", because not only is the book about a secret garden that she finds, but she would often use sticks, dirt, and rocks to pretend to have a garden of her own.
5) She would like "mansions" because when she moves into the one that her uncle lives in, she finds it to be interesting. She liked to explore it when she had the chance, and thought it was very neat.

LVargas6: That quote from your book is great! It's so true in my life, and more than likely anyone elses! Great blog!

I am currently reading Slaughter house Five by Kurt Vonnegut. "I've visited thirty-one inhabited planets in the universe. Only on Earth is there any talk of free will." The main character Billy Pilgrim is supposedly abducted my aliens. One them says the above statement to him. It talks about how they experience war just like humans do. The aliens still experience war because the book tries to explain that it is just nature in general. This makes me think about life because no matter what happens in our lives we seem to find a flaw or something we do not like. It is true that we have free will. We do not have a ruler of the entire world. We do have wars but we should be able to find joy in the little things.
KaylaN5: I absolutely love that book. It is so good!

I am currently reading Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie. In this novel Peter Pan is a stereotypical boastful and careless boy. Peter Pan is very mischievous, and is fairly cocky when it comes to dangerous situations. Peter is also very much of a show off and tends to quickly try to explain how good he is, even when some of his statements wouldn't make much sense.

1. Peter might like Pranking if he had a facebook simply because of how mischievous he is.

2. Flying, simply because of his ability to fly, and the fact that he takes advantage of his ability.

3. Helping Others. Though Peter is very mischievous, he did help younger children learn how to fly, by explaining that you must have a "happy thought" and some fairy dust.

4. Greek Mythology. In the book, Mrs. Darling states that from what she's heard about Peter Pan, he accompanies dead children part of their way to wherever their destination is so that they would not be frightened, which resembles the Greek god Hermes.

5. Peter might like swordsmanship. In the book, Peter is a skilled swordsman, with his rival being Captain Hook.
