I am reading The Accidental Family by Rowan Coleman. I am on page 73.

One of the unexpected things that has happened so far would be that Sophie Mills who is the main character got proposed to by her one true love, Louis. There were different signs that were somewhat pointing to Louis proposing to her, by asking Sophie if she wanted to go to dinner alone since they barely ever do. The thing with Sophie is that when her best friend passed away, Carrie, she was given custody of Carrie’s two children. Sophie then had to drop most of what she was doing to care for these two little girls. Louis who is the father then comes back for the girls after being divorced and the two girls quickly find a liking to him and Sophie finds herself falling in love with him. Once Louis and his two daughters leave, and go back to London, which is where he had resided since the divorce, Sophie finds herself in distress with the three people she loves gone. She decided to go to London to find them and declare her love for all three of them especially Louis. Louis and the two daughters then also announced their love for them and tell Sophie that she should stay with them, which she does. Then later, since they are always together with the children, and are only together when the kids are both asleep, when he asks her to the restaurant, she is taken by surprise. She assumes that he is going to ask her to marry him. Sophie goes to talk to her friend, Carmen Velasquez, at the local bakery that she goes to every other day with the girls after school, and tells her what she thinks is going to happen. Carmen already knew so she convinces Sophie out of the idea, so she doesn’t expect it, as well as the reader. It was a big surprise when he asked her, but of course she said yes.

I am reading Happy Acidents by Jane Lynch and am currently on page 57. This is an autobiography so her life choices at some points surprised me. One surprise is that she quit the school play when she was in 9th grade. This surprised me because what she wants to be when grows up has been an actress but she quits the play. Another thing that surprised me is when she was talking about discovering who she was and then found out that she was deaf in her right ear. I found this surprising because she is a great actress and it doesn't seem to show when she is being filmed for TV shows or movies.

Alyssa6~
That sounds very interesting. But one question is how old they are. Because when I started reading the post I thought they were in high school and that's why it was a surprise.

I'm reading Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins and I haven't had much time to finish it, but now I'm on page 246.

A twist in my book that really surprised me was the fact that Peeta wanted to see Katniss. Last time Peeta saw Katniss, he strangled her. Then several weeks later, he asked to see her. And what surprised me most was how rude and mean he was to her. Before he'd been nothing but kind, and gentle. He was saying things to her like "Your not very pretty, are you?" and "And your not remotely nice." An he made an implication to Finnick to take Annie away from him (and Annies kind of insane but sweet. And Finnick is in love with her), all while Peeta was in love with Katniss. When I first read this book I was so shocked at this then of events. Petta was never known for being mean.

Your story, at the beginning sounds a lot like the beginning of Mary Anne and I's flash fiction! Thats so weird...

I just started Deadly Little Games by Laurie Faria Stolarz and I am on page 28.

My book has a girl named Camelia who has a psychic gift, as well as her boyfriend, Ben. What surprises me is that Camelia is still with her boyfriend right now. One of Ben's psychic powers lets him know what someone Is feeling and thinking just when he touches them. The book talks about how Ben was on a hike with his ex-girlfriend, Julie, while they were still dating. When Ben went to hold her hand, he got the feeling Julie was cheating on him. He tried to squeeze her hand harder to get more of that feeling, but she got scared and started to pull away. Suddenly, she fell off a cliff and died because she was trying to get away from him so intensely. If that was not surprising enough, I just can't believe Camelia is dating him now, despite the fact that he was put on trial for killing his girlfriend.

Paige- I couldn't believe Peeta wanted to see Katniss either! I was scared that she was going to end up getting hurt then!

I just started the book 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher but haven't read enough to do the blog so the last book I read was Into the Wild by Sarah Durst. One twist that I did not to happen was "The Wild" being released into the community. Julie is a 13 year old girl and she and her family have a secret. There is a mini forest under her bed and her and her mother have to stop it from growing out of their house. They do this by locking her door so many times and guarding the house. If the "Wild" escapes it will cover the whole town in a green forest and capture people in it, making it very hard to get out. Julie comes home to an empty house one day after school and she realizes that the "Wild" is out from under her bed. This is a sickening feeling to Julie because this mean shed mother and grandmother have been captured. The twist was that after the "Wild' had escaped her bedroom she decided to go to where the "Wild" had spread to (a gas station) to try to stop it and look for her mom and grandma. While doing this Julie goes into the "Wild"! I thought that she would have stayed out. She wasn't sure if her mother and grandma were in there or not but she went in knowing she wasn't coming out. What if her mom was outside in the real weld? Then Julie would have been stuck forever! I just wasn't expecting that at all!

I am reading The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I am on page 67.

The book started out with an unexpected event when Benjamin's parents left him alone on someone else's doorstep. Since Benjamin was born old instead of young, it should drive the parents to be even more aware and cautious to keep him safe as he grows younger, so I did not see that coming. Also, when Benjamin's adoptive father takes him out for clothing, many people stare and laugh at Ben and his father. What suprised me is that his father didn't stand up for himself and his son, he was too self-consious and embarrassed to do anything which, in my opinion, is extremely arrogant and not to mention insulting to Benjamin.

My book is Ruthless (10th book in the Pretty Little Liars series) by Sara Shepard. I am on page 214.

As I said in my last blog Spencer (a main character) was caught with drugs and blamed it on her friend by sneaking them under her pillow. It turns out that Kelsey which was the girl that was blamed was sent to juvie for the drugs. NOW SHE IS BACK!! She is playing in a charity music group held by Amelia (one of Spencer's family members) so she is over practicing for the concert over at Spencer's family's house. So this also means Spencer will also see her much much more often. Spencer thinks that Kelsey has come back to get revenge on Spencer for what she did to her in the drug incident. I will eventually see what happens!!

I am reading HIVE by Mark Walden and I am finished reading it.
One irony in my book is that Otto, the main character and his friends- Wing, a martial arts expert, Laura, a technology genius, and Shelby, a master thief by the name of Wraith-are abducted to the Higher Institute of Villainous Education<<HIVE, for a six year tuition without ever being allowed to leave the institute which is on a secret volcanic island which no one knows where it is. They hate it that they can't be free while on the island so they plan an escape. They go through steaming laundry caves, ventilation systems, a base for the HIVEmind, an artificial intelligence that runs the whole institute and finally to the submarine pen...where Dr. Nero, the institute's principal sort of guy stood right in a white room that was definitely not a submarine pen. This was sort of surprising because I thought Otto and his friends could actually make it out of the place. It seemed like they were all being discreet about their plans but it seemed that Dr. Nero knew all.

I'm currently reading Millions by Frank Cottrell Boyce and am on page 78. The book is about these two brothers, probably 10 and 8, whose mom is dead and whose dad works the majority of the day. They move a lot and the two boys usually have to raise themselves. The youngest of the two, Damian, has the same bad dream frequently and then tries to clear his head by taking a stroll outside or doing stretches in his room. One night he couldn't fall asleep and was looking out the window at the train passing. He saw this bag being thrown out of the moving train, woke his brother Anthony up, and the two of them went to go get the bag. What they found was a huge bag full of 229,370 pounds, the book takes place in England, and only have 17 days to spend it all before the money system changes. I knew they were going to end-up with money from the back of the book, but I had no idea it would come in this form or that they would have such a time limit.

I have just finished the book Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling. A twist that was in this book was when they figured out who and how the chamber of secrets was open. Harry and his friend Ron thought it was a boy named Draco Malfoy because he seemed proud the chamber was opened. But when they figured out it was Ginny, Ron’s own sister, that was a big twist. Ginny did it by a journal with a piece of Voldemort’s soul in it telling her what to do.

i just finished no place for magic by E.D.Baker
Throughout the story Princess Emma and Prince Edric are trying to convince Edrics parents to give their approval for their wedding and they have to go on this long journey and fight griffins and save the Edric brother from the evil troll queen, because a prince from another kingdom was mad that Emma didnt marry him and locked him up in a dungeon, so he sent the troll queen to capture Edrics little brother in hopes of postponing their wedding. they finally defeat the troll queen and bring the brother back home and Edrics parents approve of their wedding and they hold the wedding the next day. right after they say "i do" and are officially married,(here's the twist) the trolls start to scale the walls of the castle and try and take Edric! and they cant stop the trolls from entering and their all trapped in a room and dont know what to do, then Emma comes up with this amazing idea to tell the troll queen that she can marry the other prince that told the queen to kidnap Edrics little brother, and the troll queen agrees and leaves.

I am reading The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and I am on page 201.

In my book one twist is that throughout the book, everybody blames the main character Percy Jackson for stealing Zeus main weapon, the mast Lightning Bolt. However Percy and his comrades believe that it was the God of the Underworld, Hades. It ends up being a Titan named Kronos which was totally unexpected. And then even more shocking, Luke who is Percy's friend back at the camp has been working for Kronos the whole time and wants to overthrow the gods.

Jessica, I heard about that book and it seemed very interesting, tell me about it one day.

I am reading The Carnivorous Carnival by Lemony Snicket and I am on page 232. One twist that occurred in my book was that Madame Lulu, a fake fortune teller who has been helping Count Olaf find the Baudelaire orphans, isn’t a wicked person after all. Madame Lulu does not like helping Count Olaf and his troop, she only does it because she likes giving people what they want Madame Lulu even offers to help the children escape. Another surprise was when the orphans discovered how Lulu had been finding them for so long she had a secret archival library which includes pictures of the Baudelaires that the children never knew were being taken and even Lulu didn’t say who had taken them.

I am reading 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher, and I am on page 156. SPOILER ALERT. A Twist in the story that i did not see coming was when Hannah forgave Marcus after he should her up for their date. I thought this was really strang for Hannah because so far She hasn't been one for forgiving people that did her wrong and she seems to be really upset while she sat there waiting for him so I had a feeling she would keep kinda quite and then do something awful in the Tapes.

Then they were accepted by the people. There reward was to watch over the Ambrodi, Skandia's most sacred treasure, for the night. However it is stolen and less than 12 hours after being accepted they become even greater outcasts forcing them to flee there homes At only the age of 16.

I just finished reading Black Tuesday by Susan Colebank.

One twist in the book is where the author sets you up with with SUPER brillant girl named Janye never gotten anything below an A minus in her life and is in her senior year. She's a good girl, doesn't care much for friends or boys or anything like that. Plus, she's all focused on getting in Harvard. But then one thing that ruins things is when she gets into a car accident and the little girl in the other car dies later because of this. (YOU'LL HAVE TO READ THE ENDING) But Janye has so much guilt that her grades begin to slip and now her chances of going to Harvard are slim to none.

Some points of that book kind of sound like a movie I've seen where the girls best friends die and leaves her and the husbands best friend with their daughter. The wife's best friend and the husband's best friend hates each other for a little while and then they fall in love. I can't think of the name of the movie though!

I am reading The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin and I am on page 80.

Recently in this book, there was a chapter called The First Bomb and at the beginning of this I thought it can not be good. It started with a scream from one of the residents of the Sunset Towers apartments. The resident, Catherine Theodorakis, went to her son and husband covered in red with dirt and a burnt apron. Her son and husband began to worry when they saw her like this and assumed it was blood. They were comforting her when she told them to call the fire department. Her husband responded telling her that it was snowy outside and they would not be able to reach the towers anytime soon. This frightened Catherine. When the resident explained what happened, she told the others in the building that it was not blood but tomato sauce which was very surprising because the way she reacted was as if it were really serious. She was in her kitchen when the cans of tomato sauce exploded everywhere and everyone is now questioning if the exploding cans were a clue to who the murderer of Sam Westing was. The will to Sam Westing was for his fellow heirs and it is a game with clues and whoever can figure it out will discover his murderer . . . Read the rest of the book to find out who it was!!

I am currently reading Through My Eyes by Tim Tebow and I am on page 167.

One twist that I was not expecting to occur involved Tim Tebow's pet dog Otis, who was a mixture of half Lab and half Golden Retriever. In order to play football for Nease High School, Tim and his mom were required to live in an apartment zoned for Nease during the week. Tim describes that the hardest thing about living away from the farm during the week was not seeing Otis. One weekend, Otis did come up and greet them when they arrived like he usually did, and they had not even seen him all weekend. They searched the property immediately and Tim ended up discovering Otis hiding behind a bush. To his dismay, Otis had a bloody mess in his mouth; his bottom jaw was hanging loosely and split in half with missing teeth. He also noticed his legs were awkwardly positioned rather than tucked in. He concluded somebody had beaten him with a baseball bat and they drove him to the vet. Sadly, the vet informed Tim that extensive damage had been done and the possible surgeries would require immense rehabilitation, and they could not ensure that Otis would survive the recovery period or surgeries at his age. Devastatingly, the Tebows brought Otis home to die and I was expecting Tim to describe how horrible this experience was because of how close of a relationship he had with his dog. However, unexpectedly, Tim said the plan would have to change. He described how over the next several months, he was able to nurse Otis back to health through slowly increasing his range of motion and by helping him through brief pool workouts, which ended up helping Otis to be able to walk again. Even though Otis was never capable of running again, having him alive was one of the greatest things ever for Tim. I was not expecting for the dog to survive this tragedy.

I am reading Somebody Everybody Listens To and I'm on page 97.

In my book, the main character, Retta, has run off to Nashville to fulfill her dream of becoming a country singer. In the book, Retta's first day contained one parking ticket, a wrecked car, and no place to stay in the busy town now home to the Country Music Awards. I thought that Retta head right to singing, but instead she found a job at a small auto shop on the side of town to help pay for the damage done to her car. Her boss seems to be a nice guy, and he even offers to buy Retta food, but I think there is more to Retta's colleague Shanay than it seems.

I am reading Need by Carrie Jones and I am on page 134. One unexpected thing that happened in my book has to do with two of the boys that Zara met when she moved to her new school in Maine. Pretty much right away, Zara befriended a guy named Nick that is really sweet to her and she starts to fall for him. One day while running track during PE, Nick tells Zara to stay away from Ian, another member of the class, because he has a bad reputation. At first she ignores this, which is surprising because she has a lot of trust in Nick and as a reader you assume she will believe him. Not only that, but during her conversation with Ian the same day, he tells her bad things about Nick and even says he has a bad reputation without even know what Nick had told her. At this point, Zara is very confused but she still likes Nick.

The book I am reading is Shattered by Dean Koontz and I am on page 40. One thing in my book that really surprised me was that after Collin and Alex left the restaurant and got gas, they talked to a man who said a guy had just gone through, saying he was going to California, the same place as Alex and Collin. This surprised me because Collin had noticed that the van that had been following them since they left the house wasn't there anymore, so they had suggested that it was just gone. About and hour later at a rest stop, they saw the van that was following them and as soon as they passed it, the van started to speed up and followed them again. Another thing that really shocked me was that the author started to talk from the perspective of the man driving the van that was following them. I thought that was shocking, considering that he never hinted to the fact that he was going to even change perspectives.

I just finished the book Shattered by Sophia Sharp. A twist that happened in this book had to do with Brady and who he really was. In the beginning Brady was described as a great, shy, sweet guy. Then, when he hit his growth spurt he came back to school to become a star football player. Laura, the main character, had not talked to him much after this, so when one day he corners her and suddenly starts sexually harassing her with a few of his new football buddies, you find out that he is actually a vain, rude, and egotistical guy who is into some very bad things. This was a huge surprise to me because I knew he had turned into quite the jerk, but from Laura's memories I never felt that he would ever do something to hurt her.

AHines6-
It would definitely be weird to fall in love with your recently deceased best friend's ex-husband, though I can kind of see it happening. It does feel like a great situation for the two kids, to have both a mother and father that they know and love.

I just finished my book Forever by Maggie Stiefvater.

In the book Grace, Sam, and Cole are half human half wolves. In the winter they are wolves and in the summer they become humans. Sam was sort of cured so that he stays human for a longer amount of time but eventually he will become a wolf again. Grace was cured but after so many years it wore off and she became a wolf. Cole was turned into a wolf by Beck, the pack leader. In Forever, they are now trying to find a real cure so Grace and Sam stay humans for life. If they don’t find a cure eventually Sam, Grace, and Cole will be wolves for the rest of their lives. What was a big twist for me was at the end of Forever; which is the last book it is fall again and Grace ends up shifting because it’s too cold and not warm enough. So no cure is found and we will never know if there is a cure because it was the last book.

I have recently started Ghosts in the Fog by Samantha Seiple. (Thank you Ms. Thomas, Great book!)
I am currently on at least the third chapter, and something that surprises me or it "twisty" to me is just the whole book itself. I have studied military history for most of my life ever since I was about 7. I have never came across the story of the invasion of Alaska during WW2. The Aleutian Island attacks never came up in my research and documents. It definitely fills in some blanks and adds a twist to my knowledge of WW2 battles.

Alyssa- The title of your book even sounds like the title to a flash fiction, surprise story. Especially sine the title has :The accidental.." in it.

Rachel- Pretty much the same thing I said to Alyssa's post. Your title sends a very strong message of "this book will be surprising and shocking with twists." Nice book choice.

I am reading Prince Caspian by C.S.Lewis and I am on page 82. My book is full of surprises. For example when I imagine Narnia, I think of a peaceful place, and especially the rulers to be great individuals. Although in this book the rulers of Narnia are currently King Miraz and Queen Prunaprismia, and Miraz killed his own brother to become leader when the rightful leader should had been Prince Caspian. The fact that Narnia was now under the rule of evil people really surprised me. What also surprised me was when Prince Caspian ran away. This was an ironic twist because during the book I thought Prince Caspian was a good and loyal prince to the king and queen. My book is full of so many endless surprises and parts of the book could even be made into flash fiction stories.

Rachel- I love Jane Lynch she is hilarious. That is interesting because I never knew she had an autobiography. Is it good?

She has been admitted to different hospitals for psychological problems. But among all of that she harbors the mind of a pure genius.

I am reading I.Q. by Roland Smith. I am on page 115.

The twist that happened during page 104 was that there is a possibility that one of the main characters, Angela, may have her mother still alive. Angela's mother worked for the government as a Secret Service Agent and apparently died on an anti-terrorism mission. Later in the story, they were chased by a bunch of men and women on a wild car chase. Soon, one of their parents' workers (their parents are professional musicians), Boone, uncovers his identity as a secret agent and says the reason they were chased was because Angela's mother may still be alive. I never expected Angela's mother to be brought up again in the book. Angela told Quest just once about her mother during one of their lunches. And it makes you ask the question whether or not they will find out whether or not her mother is alive. And who knew that two musicians' kids would go onto a secret agent/spy adventure to find an agent mother that is suspected to be dead? I mean the family was even going on tour in huge bus coaches! It really gave me a jumping shock.

What I have read that was fairly recent that had a twist was when Tim’s Uncle Dick died. Tim said that his Uncle Dick passed away while he was still quite young. I did not expect Uncle Dick to die so early in Tim’s life, because Tim stated how much of an impact he on his life. To me I thought that Uncle Dick would have been around much longer than he did. I am currently reading The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch and I am on page 152. A event that occurred a while back was when Stephen, the main character, stole some medicine that he could hopefully use or trade for something better. But now, a twist that happened was when someone found out about the medicine being stolen. This was a big twist because Stephen took extra precautionary measures to make sure no one saw him, but it turned out someone did see him. Now Stephen is unsure of what this person will do, either tell everyone or keep it a secret.

In my book Bruiser by Neal Shusterman I am on Page 124 a biggest twist to occur so far was discovering that the bruiser actually is a kind person.
He is a big burly teenager who doesn't say much. This intimidating appearance makes everyone think he is a mean person. But when Tennyson actually starts to get to know the bruiser he realizes he is actually a friendly and caring person, who loves his brother and puts up with an abusive household.

The book I am currently reading is The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. So far, I am only on page 31, so there has not been any twists in the story yet because the story line in still being set up. But the last book I read wasa book by Jay Asher named Thirteen Reasons Why. This novel did end with a twist. Throughout this entire novel, a girl named Hannah Baker had made cassette tapes stating the thirteen reasons why she committed suiceide. How I thought the story was going to end was that Hannah's death ends up being a fake, and her committing suicide was all a made-up to make everyone in the tapes realize all of the bad things they had done to her. But, the book ends with her being dead the whole time, and at the end the main character,Clay, ends up trying to save another girl's life before she committs suiceide too.

I am reading Places I never Meant to Be by Judy Blume and I am on page 95. This book is a collection of stories, but the one I just finished is called "Spear." It is about a black teenager who goes to a school where the majority of the students are also colored. He is class president and is extremely successful in his academic and athletic life. His father was a civil rights activistsl nicknamed the "Black Spear." When he died, people started calling his son Spear, but no one really knew his real name. One day, in African American history class, he notices a single white girl at the front of the class, and is confused. His friends start to make fun of the girl, and he even joins in a little. I thought that the story would be about this girl being picked on, but in the end, he ends up falling in love with this girl despite their different skin colors. It had a very deep message that I was not expecting.

Because this is a autobiography there weren really any big twist. The biggest twist that really happened was when eric tried to become a navy seal. I thought that this was a little bit of a twist because he had stopped being in the military and started his personal life again. Usually after you are done in the military, you dont re enlist. Joining the Navy seals was one of the hardest things that one could do. Most all of the people will not leave a navy seal, but eric did.

Addy,
That boook sounds really wierd. Half? thats kind of crazy in my opinion.

Alex,
I think its funny how those peopl go threw all that trouble just for marriage.
