Post your book's title, author, and page #.

If you had to take the place of one character in your book, who would you take the place of? Explain why you would take that person's place.

Remember to be thoughtful in your responses.

I am currently reading Pretty Little Liars: Wicked, by Sara Shepard. I am on page 242.

If I could take the place of one character it would be Kate, Hanna's soon-to-be stepsister. I chose Kate because she is pretty, makes friends easily, and she does not have to go through what is happening to the main characters. She goes on with her day like any other person while Hanna and the others have to be on constant look out for Ian, who has been missing since his court trial. She also does not have to worry about her secrets going public at any second like the main characters. My final reason for choosing Kate is that she is the ruler of the main clique at school, which seems like it could have its perks.

I am reading Ruthless, the 10th book in the Pretty Little Liars Series by Sara Shepard. I am done!!
If I HAD to take the place of a character it would be Amelia, Spencer’s family member. I would not want to be any of the main characters because they are getting stalked by a person that goes by “A.” “A” threatens and tortures all of the girls if they do not do what “A” wants. This is the kind of book where I would prefer to be no one because all of these people are in awful situations. I would be Amelia because from what I know she has not received messages from “A” or been in life-threatening scenarios. Amelia also seems like a nice all-around person.

I thought about choosing Kate but throughout the next 5 books after Wicked I don't really like her anymore. She gets a lot meaner, if that is even possible.

I just finished The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.

If I could be anybody in this book, I would be the main character Percy Jackson. I chose Percy because even though he has gone through a rough childhood with no father and an awful step-father, he ends up being the actual son of Poseidon. The powers that he realizes he has is he can control any kind of water, he can breathe in water and talk to water creatures and horses, and he ends up being the hero of Olympus.

JMartinez6 said...

Hunter,
That sounds like a good book, and I have always wanted to be able to breathe in water. And didn't they turn that book into a movie?

Monica,
Sorry but I could not read yours in case it was a spoiler.

I am reading HIVE the Overload protocol by Mark Walden and I am on page 288.
If I could take the place of one of the characters, I would be the main character Otto Malpense. I would take this person's place, because he is has a cunning brilliant mind. He has a sort of hyperthymestic syndrome, where he always remember everything that has happened in his life. He also has a photographic memory where he can remember complex blueprints and use them for his use whenever he wanted to. He can even learn a language in a day, quite impossible in real life. Malpense also made a fool out of a British Prime Minister. I would love to have such an intellect. He is also cunning and always comes up with the clever plan to save the day. Additionally, he looks like a character that I would have fun drawing since he has spiky white hair and goes great with black, which is my favorite color.

I also would love to speak to horses and have the power to bend water to my will; it would make surfing easy.

Is that a good series? I always see people reading it. I think I might read it soon.

I recently finished the Carnivorous Carnival by Lemony Snicket.
Right now the Baudelaire siblings are disguised as circus freaks who have joined Count Olaf’s troop in hope to reach the secrete head quarters where they may find one of their parents who survived the fire. If I had to choose one character to be I would want to be Sunny because her disguise seems essayer to move in and also because she is riding in Olaf’s car. Violet and Klaus are sharing a costume pretending to be a person with two heads which seems rather uncomfortable. Even though Count Olaf is a repulsive person I would rather be ridding in his car than in the caravan tied to it by only a rope which is where her siblings are ridding.

that charecter sounds awsome I wouldn't mind knowing someone like that.

I am reading Deadly Little Games by Laurie Faria Stolarz and I am on page 170.

If I could take the place of a character in my book, I would take the place of the main character, Camelia. She is smart and independent, and she is psychic. Who wouldn't want to be her? She gets premonitions, which lead her to a mystery that has to do with her ex-boyfriend, Adam. I think it would be really fun to be Camelia because solving a mystery would be really cool and suspenseful. She also has to solve a mystery that has to do with her Aunt, and if I had to guess, in the end it will link to the mystery with Adam. Being Camelia would be a very interesting experience, unlike the other characters in the book.

BFoster- I LOVED the Series of Unfortunate Events books! Have you read the other ones, and what did you think of them? I thought there was a really good ending in the very last one. The Carnivorous Carnival one sort of freaked me out, though.

Pemba's Song/ Tonya C. Hegamin and Marilyn Nelson/ Page 90

If I could trade places with someone in this book, it would be Pemba. Pemba has a sixth sense. When she moves into her new house with her mom, a slave who lived there centuries before communicates to her. Pemba has visions of what happened in the house and what the slave, Phyllys, is trying to help her uncover about her masters. The book is very mysterious, and Pemba has the chance to leave reality for a few minutes at a time and enter the world Phyllys lived in! Pemba's visions sound very exciting, and I think it would be very cool to be able to sort of 'travel back in time' and see what Phyllys went through.

HRoss5- Oh my gosh, that's really cool! I love the beach and the ocean, and I think it would be AMAZING to be able to breathe underwater and control the ocean. That would definitely be my choice if I was reading that book! It would be really weird though if you found out you were the son of Poseidon.....

I am currently reading Somebody Everybody Listens To by Suzanne Supplee, but I can't find my book and don't know what page I'm on. (I read at least 35 pages this week though!)

I probably could never take the main character, Retta's place. She has been mugged, beaten, and has faced awful conditions as she sleeps in her car in Nashville. I would probably take Retta's friend Reilly's (?) place. She is a really nice character and is trying to become a doctor, something I would love to do in the future.

Jaci and Monica- I bet it's kind of hard to choose a character to be from the PLL series... I've never read the books, but it seems like all the characters face a lot of conflict!

I am on page 27 of 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. This book is very good but I have not gotten into it enough to do the blog so I am doing the blog on my old book Into the Wild by Sarah Durst. If I HAD to take the place of a character in he book, I would take the place of Julie the girl who has to go into the WIld.The Wild is the magic forest that has spread throughout her town and took her mom and grandmother. I would take Julie's place because even though her life is a little chaotic it is very action packed! Julie is faced with one hard decision but once she decides to go in the Wild her life is very fun and risky. Julie meets many creatures and friends along the way! I think it would be fun to take an adventure like that.

Monica~ It really surprises me that you are reading Pretty Little Liar books... Not! Are they any different than the show?

MSpillane6 said...

My book is Millions by Frank Cottrell Boyce, and am on page 102.

I would take the place of Damion, the main character. He seems to have a very clear understanding of the meaning of life. Damion is very sensible and appreciates everything. However, he is also really young, and has gone through hard times. Damion is only in elementary school, has moved a lot, and who's mom died. If this happened to me, I wouldn't be as nice and appreciative. Being able to constantly be calm and kind is a trait that I don't always have. I think the Damion's of the world are people that everyone always looks up to.

I am currently reading Everfound by Neal Shusterman and I am on page 78.

If I could take the place of any character it would probably be Zin the Ripper. Shes in Everlost like everyone else, but if she needs or wants anything, she can take it right out of our world and into the in-between called Everlost. She gets to live forever as a young child and do whatever she likes when she likes and can get whatever she wants when she wants. Who wouldn't want that? I would love to take her place any day!

I am reading Through my Eyes by Tim Tebow and I am on page 203. If I could take the place of one character in my book, I would take the place of Tim Tebow. First, Tim is a well-rounded person and excels in school and in athletics, and I am the same way. He is extremely competitive and strives to succeed in everything he does and I believe this is a very special quality to have. For example, in his first few football workouts at the University of Florida, Tim's goal was to survive and walk out of the training facility under his own power. However, after the second workout, his goal had changed just because of the person he is, and he now wanted to excel in the workouts so that he would become an even better player. I would want to take Tim's spot because he has experienced exciting events in his life, such as being a missionary in the Philippines, and I think this would be something very interesting to have the opportunity to do. Lastly, I would want to be Tim because after his senoir high school football season, he had over 100 scholarship offers to play football and also for academics. I would love to be in this place because you would have a vast amount of choices for where you could attend college.

Great choice about whose place you would take! I would do the same because of how awesome it would be to have those water powers.

Im reading 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher and Im on page 171. If I could take the place of anyone in this book it would be Clay Jenson, who is the main character other than Hannah. I would be Clay because out of all the people on her list of reasons she killed herself, he did the least. People spread rumors about her, stood her up, used her, and even took the comments from her bag that probable would've kept her from ending her life. All she has said about Clay so far is that she wishes she had gotten to know him better because she really liked her and that is exactly how he felt about her.

MEfferen6- Im am going to finnish the series after I finnish 13 Reasons why. Im so excited to find out what happens next! I also totally agree with you! I would hate to be Emily, Spencer, Hannah, or Aria because being stalked by A would be awful!

I am still on IQ by Roland Smith and I am on page 117. I have not had time to read that much this week.

I would completely take the place of the main character, Quest. He is intelligent (in fact, his nickname is IQ), he is now involved with secret government agency activities, he has parents that are performers, and he is a master magician! I always dreamed of one day being involved with issues that the regular citizen is completely unaware with because it makes me feel exclusive and secretive. Actually my favorite genre of books are books with secret spies and agents or any plot with involving with someone doing something behind the scenes. Intelligence would just help me in general with school and other necessary situations. Magic is a great plus. I was actually really into magic during the 5th grade year (duncan johnson was involved in it too, we spent so much money on it). Magic is just amazing in general. It is such an intricate way of decieving someone else's eyes with it only being done for entertainment purposes.

I am reading The Au Pairs: Sun Kissed by Mellissa De La Cruz and I am on page 30.

If i had to take place of a character, it would be Eliza because she had this job at a fashio desginer company, which I think would be so much fun. Also she has just graduated from high school and got excepted into Princeton, which is one of the top colleges! Plus, it is summertime in the book and so she is spending the summer at the beach with her best friends. I love the beach so much because it is one of my favorite places to go and I have always wanted to go to the beach and stay in a condo like Eliza is doing.

The book I am currently reading is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling.

If I had to take the place of a character in this book it would be Hermione Granger. She’s really smart and a know it all. She’s one of the main characters so she’s involved in most of the events that take place. I like how she reads her schoolbooks over the summer and she answers almost every question in class even if she’ not called on. I love how she’s a witch but comes from Muggle parents. One of my favorite things about her is that she knows how to brew Polyjuice Potion which can turn you into anyone as long as you have a little bit of their hair. I also like how she’s extremely mature for her age and when everyone else is acting crazy and chaotic she’s either trying to stop it or just sitting there acting normal. I would just love to be her for a day and act nerdy like her. It would also be really fun to knowing everything exactly like her and to get your spells right on the first try. I also would love being in all of the wild events that take place in the book.

ASimmons5 said...

Lena- The character in your book Eliza has a really interesting job as a fashion designer. She also must be having a great summer because it's at the beach which is one of my favorite places.

I forgot to post it above but I'm on page 166 in my book.

Karoline: I agree that it would be really cool to have that ability! I feel like I would learn so much about the past if I had it.

I am reading The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and I am on page 110.

If I could take the place of anyone in my book, it would be Mr. Button, Benjamin Button's father. Benjamin was left on his doorstep, which was fate for him because his wife couldn't have children. I would have been so extremely blessed to get a child roght after terrible news like that, that I personally wouldn't mind the child aging backwards. All of the characters in this book do not have a very exceptional life, especially Mr. Button, but he is such an amazing leader and father in general that I wish I could have be him sometimes.

JHebin5 said...

Lena,
Eliza sounds like a fun and playful character! She must be an exceptional student considering she got into Princeton. The book, just by tthis one character, sounds interesting. Please tell me about it when you are finished!

I am reading The Girl with the dragon tattoo. I am on page 375. Also, everyones part in my book is equally terrible. SO i would have to pick the Henrik Vanger. Only because he is rich, but he has wasted 40 years of his life investigating the murder of his niece.

Jaci ~ I have heard so much about that book. Also, what happens to the main characters?

I just finished reading Full Tilt by Neal shusterman. If I had to take the place of one character, I would take the place of Quinn. I would do this because he doesn't care what anybody thinks of him and he does what he wants with little to no consequences. I would love to climb on a rolletcoaster and my mom just shrugging it of like it is normal.

Bridget ~ that count olaf sounds like one mean man trying kids to the roof and driving.

I am currently reading Leepike Ridge by N.D. Wilson and am on page 117.

If I could take the place of one character in the book I am reading I would be Thomas Hammond. Originally I would have been Thomas's mother, Elizabeth Hammond. But, after Tom finds someone (in the cave he is lost in) named Reg who knew his father, I would be him. The reason I would be him is because I would feel a lot less scared being lost if I had someone beside me. Especially, if that person knew my father. Reg even shows Thomas an ancient tomb which I think would be really cool to explore. Without Reg, I would not be Thomas because I would feel alone and scared. With Reg, I would be Thomas because I would have a companion that I could look for an escape route with. I would not have a loneliness if I was with Reg. That is why I would be Thomas.

Jklenck5 said...

Bridget, I am one book under that one. Such a great series! Is it good? I am defiantly going to read it. By the way, I never knew that their parents could have survived. what a good twist! VERY excited!

I am reading The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin and I am on page 104.

If I had to take the place of one character in my book, I would want to take the place of Angela. Angela is described as "so fair-skinned and blonde, so attainable". Also, she is engaged with a man who is very popular and wealthy. Who would not want to be her? Though, she is not very excited whenever anyone brings up her marriage and seems rather disappointed. She is friendly, nice, and caring of her little, and very jealous sister, Turtle. Lastly, she contributes nicely to the community and is a good role model for all the citizens, younger and older. She is a role model for me as well.

LPaxton5 said...

I am reading Need by Carrie Jones and I am on page 224. If I had to switch places with one of the characters in my book, I would want to take the place of the main character, Zara. Although Zara faces lots of challenges (she struggles emotionally after the death of her father and has a pixie stalking her) these hard times really highlight the true friends that she has. Everyone has hard times in their life, same as her, and she has amazing support from really great friends to help her through it. Recently, one of her friends, Nick, puts himself in severe danger to save her when she is out in the cold and in an unsafe position due to the "stalker." So even though Zara faces some hard times, I would not mind taking her place because I would feel relief in having friends like hers that everything would be okay. Also, there is a sense of bravery in her that would definitely be useful to have through life.

kgraetz5 said...

Paige ~ I would love to be that character too. She seems so free willing and open about her feelings which can come in handy when you want something. You are doing a very good job, keep it up!

The book that I am currently reading is Shattered by Dean Koontz and I am on page 60. The one person I would like to take place of in this book is Courtney, Alex’s wife and Colin’s sister. Courtney really has only been mentioned in this book maybe three times, but she lives in a house in California and she has a husband who loves her little brother. Living in California and having a job there is really interesting and for me, that would just seem like a blast and it would be so much fun. So even though she hasn’t really been a main character in the book, she still seems like she would be the only character I would like to be.

I am reading Ghost In the Fog and I am about 3/4 of the way finished.
If I could take place of a character in my book, I actually would not choose just one. I would be on the ground, fighting for my people and family. I would be the first to take risks for my family and to save others. I wouldn't be a certain individual, I'd be soldier who is there to help my fellow comrades.
Jaci-
Ive seen many people reading those, even my sister. I could never really get into the whole chick drama thing. Still sounds like it could be a good series though.
Monica-
Why are so many people reading these??? Anyways, I agree, I would want to be a person who isnt in fear for their life 24/7.

I am currently reading Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis and I am on page 135. If I could take the place of one character of the book I would take the place of Prince Caspian. The reason why is because Prince Caspian is one of the main and interesting people in the book. Prince Caspian throughout the book participates in endless amounts of action scenes which I would love to be a part of. I would also like to be Prince Caspian because he is a very unique character and would be a challenge for me to play. Prince Caspian also is very rich and if I were to replace a character of the book I would replace the richest one, which was Prince Caspian. Prince Caspian is an awesome character and I enjoyed reading the scenes in which he participated, and if I would replace him because in my opinion he has the most interesting role in the book.

Monica- The title of the book makes me feel like it is a very interesting and drama driven book. Also, many people have told me that the Pretty Little Liars series are amazing. How does the book compare to the show?

I am currently reading The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch and I am on page 207. If I had to take the place of one character in my book, it would be Jackson. There was a huge plague that wiped out most of America, but some people survived. These people either live in secret communities or scavenge around the ruins of America. Jackson is a teenager that is part of one of the few families that live in the secret communities. I would want to take his place because he doesn't have to travel or deal with the hardships that scavengers have. Also, he is pretty popular within the community and is a great leader.

I am reading Through my eyes By Nathan Whitaker. I am currently on page 132.
If I could choose to be one character in my book, hands down I would be Tim Tebow. He is an amazing role model as a person and as an athlete. He cares for others more than he cares for himself. There needs to be more people like his in this world. He is a good Christian man and does everything for god no matter what it is. He has the best work ethic I have ever seen in a human being. I honestly wish my work ethic was a little bit better. But I would not want to be any other person besides Tim Tebow in this book.

i just finished unwind by neil shusteman, and if i had to take any ones place in that book i would want to be risa, one of the main characters, she is strong, and outspoken, but at the same she is very smart, and i would want to have those qualities. also i would want to be apart of the action but i wouldnt want to be the main person causing all the trouble, which is exactly what risa does.
